Family Services ministry provides food, clothing, household goods, furniture and (limited) utility assistance to clients who live in the community. The Family Service counselor sees 15-20 clients per day who are in need of some form of assistance. The most frequent request is for food, followed by clothing and utility assistance. A food referral from the Department of Family & Children’s Services (DFACS) and picture identification is required in order to receive food assistance.
We also make a huge effort to meet seasonal needs:
- During the stifling summer heat, donors generously donate electric fans, which are distributed free of charge to members of the community with a verifiable need. Many do not own a fan, or may have air conditioning which is cost-prohibitive to operate. These fans can literally be life-saving to people who are so grateful for a way to “beat the heat”.
- And, of course, the opposite problem exists in the cold winter months. Again, heaters are donated and distributed, to provide welcome relief from the cold weather.
Most important of all, our Family Services counselor offers to pray with each client with whom she meets. Many clients feel free to share some of the struggles they are facing and appreciate being pointed toward God and His concern for their situation.
