HORITCULTURE PROGRAM

The Valley Rescue Mission Horticulture program thrives year-round on our Crossroads campus. As our team cultivates beautiful flowers for the community, they break up fallow ground in their own lives—discovering healing, discipline, and God's restorative mercy in every blossom.

“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground...” — Hosea 10:12
Cultivating Hope
At Valley Rescue Mission, we are deeply blessed to offer a transformative Horticulture program for the men in our Crossroads Recovery Program. This unique work therapy initiative teaches valuable vocational ethics while beautifully integrating Scripture into every hands-on lesson.
The Miracle of Growth and Grace
Our clients nurture delicate seedlings into full maturity, eventually sending them out into the community to bless others. This process serves as a living, breathing metaphor for the gospel:
-
The Living Metaphor: Spiritual recovery mirrors a plant’s journey from a hidden seed to a flourishing creation.
-
Divine Opportunity: Just as a plant requires time, soil, and care to bloom, God provides these men with the grace and environment needed for personal transformation before re-entry.
-
Bearing Fruit: Through patience and labor, participants witness how dedication yields beautiful, tangible results.
Mentorship in the Garden
Our Horticulture Coordinator, Carl Douglas, guides the men as they cultivate a diverse variety of flowers, plants, and vegetables. More than just teaching gardening skills, Carl openly shares God's grace in his own life. This shared experience allows him to instill vital life skills while deeply relating to the men in their personal journeys of recovery.
Sowing Seeds to Support the Ministry
During the spring and fall seasons, our participants step into the community to sell these beautiful plants. This vital initiative is one of the many facets that ensures every client receives 100% free residency at Valley Rescue Mission.
-
100% Donor-Funded: All of our recovery programs for both men and women rely entirely on the generosity of donors and community-supported opportunities like this one.
-
A Cycle of Blessing: When you purchase our plants, you are directly investing in a changed life.
John 15:5
"I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing."
