Jesus was a carpenter, and while carpentry has long offered powerful opportunities to connect with Christ, his ministry was ultimately about restoration. Our program expands on this by teaching woodworking, appliance repair, and small engine mechanics.
Whether we are reshaping a piece of timber, rewiring an appliance, or rebuilding an engine, the core lesson remains identical. With patience, effort, and care, something broken and discarded can be made functional, beautiful, and useful once again.
This hands-on work mirrors the very core of our mission: to show our clients that no matter how lost, worn down, or broken they may feel, God has a profound purpose for their lives. Just as a craftsman carves wood, a mechanic tunes an engine, or a technician restores an appliance to working order, God can completely rebuild and restore lives with love and intention.

Cultivating Hope: Renewal and Growth at Crossroads
The historic Camp Joy has been given new life, transformed into a place of purpose, productivity, and spiritual growth once again. Through the dedication and hard work of the men in Crossroads—Phase Two of the Men’s Addiction Recovery Program at Valley Rescue Mission—the old camp now stands as a beautiful space where healing, learning, and restoration take root.
At the heart of this transformation is Jakob Staley, a veteran and tradesman, and Michael Henderson, a seasoned contractor and cabinet maker. Both are cherished graduates of Valley Rescue Mission, who lead our shops and ministries with vision, compassion, and a commitment to excellence.
Rooted in Faith, Restoring Lives
Our shops remind us daily of the ultimate Creator, who tends to our lives with the same perfect care we give to our projects and repairs. As Isaiah 64:8 teaches us: "Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand."
In the Crossroads programs, the men are cultivating discipline, building confidence, and forming bonds through the joy of hard work. The trade skills learned here extend far beyond the workbench and tool chest. They equip men with the practical and spiritual tools needed to restore broken relationships with family, friends, and the community.
