I was a teenager when I started doing drugs. It wasn't till my early 20's when I discovered alcohol. Every day of my life has been alcohol, also meth, cocaine, pills, but the alcohol has been through it all. It took my dreams, my family, kept me from God. I lived with the enemy. Lived a life by myself, doing what I want, how I wanted to. The only person I ever took care of was me.
It was in my late 30's when I winded up in the hospital, then a program at the Gospel Rescue Mission in Anchorage, AK, a faith based program like this. So I knew God and what I was supposed to do. I graduated that program, got back on pills & alcohol, lost everything, winded up in the hospital again. The nurse was in A.A., so I started A.A. That worked for a couple years, but I kept telling myself my faith in God should be strong enough to not rely on A.A. I left and failed. My drinking was worse than ever. Fentanyl, back in hospital. I winded up in Suldotna, AL, Teen Challenge Program for 2 months. That's when I came home to Georgia, started drinking. I've been to multiple hospitals in 2 years time. My last visit I was beat. I prayed & prayed, then went to the Valley Rescue Mission in Columbus.
I had to wait 2 weeks for a bed. Started praying for patience. God, I really need you. What does it mean to surrender? What am I doing wrong?
I came to the Valley Rescue Mission to get help. I knew our Father and His son Jesus Christ was the only way. At the Mott I kept hearing about Crossroads. When we get there is when everything is going to happen. It still took me a couple months because I was having too much fun in the kitchen. That ended right quick. My pride—the kitchen was my idol, it's all I was thinking about. They took me out. Since then I've had complete focus on God. I've learnt what I have been doing wrong.
Anybody can believe there is a God. In Isaiah 7:9, if you do not stand firm in your faith you will not stand at all. James 1:6, he must believe and not doubt because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea blown and tossed by the wind. Psalms 46:10, be still and know that I am God. John 15:5, I am the vine, you are the branches; if a man remains in me and I in him he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
I have ruined everything relying on me. These are my everyday verses.
All the words in this Bible are the living words of God. I have invited our Father and His son Jesus Christ into my heart. Thank you Jesus for my salvation. I now have a relationship every day. I can live in victory and walk in confidence because the power of our enemy has been broken. God's word gives me the right thinking and the right acting.
I want to thank the Valley Rescue Mission for the 320+ hours of classes. Thank all the teachers that taught me how to be with Jesus and see everybody the way Jesus does. Thank you for all the staff, all the love they have for Jesus and sharing with me.
Again, thank you Jesus for my salvation.
